'09 WISCONSIN State Sterling Silver 5 3/8" Souvenir Spoon by WatsonTop of handle features the Coat of Arms for the State of Wisconsin. At the top of the image features "Forward", which is the state motto, and a badger, which is the state animal. Center of the image features on the top left, a plow, representing agriculture and farming; on the top right is a pick and shovel, representing mining; on the bottom left is an arm-and-hammer, representing manufacturing; on the bottom right is an anchor, representing navigation; in the center is The U.S. Coat of Arms and the motto "E Pluribus Unum" meaning "Out of many, one". The shield is supported by a sailor and a yeoman (usually considered a miner), representing labor on water and land. At the bottom of the image is a cornucopia, representing prosperity and abundance, and 13 lead ingots, representing mineral wealth and the 13 original United States. The state seal emphasizes mining and shipping because at the time of Wisconsin's founding in 1848 the mining of lead and iron and shipping were major industries.
