Walt Disney Disneyland Newspaper #2 1965 Tencennial Herald Examiner Future ParksWalt Disney Disneyland Newspaper #2 1965 Tencennial Herald Examiner Future Parks
Historic Disneyland Memorabilia from Saturday's Toys presents...
a vintage newspaper from the Herald Examiner of Los Angeles, California
Dated:
Thurs. February 11, 1965
Author:
Ted Thackery Jr. (Herald Examiner Staff writer)
Subject:
Disneyland Tencennial Year
Approx. 14.5" x 21.5"; Section B; pages B1 thru B8.
Features the origins of Disneyland... including the introduction of the new Big Brass Drum. Though unstated, the drum was created by American drummer and entrepreneur Remo Belli. In reality, Disneyland never wanted to let it be known who was responsible for their parade props... but this one was so successful that Remo Belli was proud to salute his own work for many years to follow.
In particular, this rare interview details Walt Disney as he discusses the many factors under consideration as he planned for possible "new" Disneyland parks throughout the United States. In reality, the concept morphed into what became "Walt Disney World"... now celebrating its 50th Anniversary as of October 1, 1971.
Filled with display ads for various shops and enterprises in Los Angeles during 1965... Includes movie ads for "Mary Poppins", "The Sound of Music", "My Fair Lady", "Those Calloways" and "The Three Lives of Thomasina."
Also includes a photo and article about actress Janine Grandel (aka the Hollywood Hills "cat lady" with her 38 cats!)
Article details the immense work that was undertaken to create Walt Disney's original "Magic Kingdom" of Disneyland...
and the possible future for additional Disneyland theme parks...
in essence, a teaser for their planned announcement of "The Florida Project"... soon to be known as Walt Disney World.

Saturday’s Toys and Collectibles
was founded in 1994 by Southern California author and media historian, Dave Mason. Soon after eBay's launch the following year, Saturday's Toys was among the first online specialists to strategize in embracing this rapidly developing technology. Having delivered over 15,000 coveted treasures since that time, Saturday's Toys is pleased to partner with researchers and collectors throughout the globe.
Today, online offerings of archival keepsakes are presented in celebration of the times that allow for family, friends and neighbors to join in memorable gatherings that nurture the strong connections that bind a community together. These treasures are affectionately represented by "Saturday's Toys." In that light we present our adopted motto (with a nod to the Sherman Brothers):
"Oh, let's go fly a kite!"
