    Description

    Republica Oriental Del Uruguay Artigas Coin 50 Centesimos Sterling (900) 4 3/8” Spoon
    Top of handle features the Coat of Arms for Uruguay. Coat of arms consists of an oval shield, which id divided into four equal sections and crowned by a rising golden sun. The oval is surrounded by a laurel branch on the left and an olive one on the right, representing honor and peace, joined at the bottom by a ribbon, the former Uruguayan cockade. In the upper left quarter there is a scale, a symbol of equality and justice. The upper right wuarter contains the Cerro de Montevideo (Montevideo Hill) with its fortress on top as a symbol of strength. In the lower left there is a galloping horse symbolizing liberty. The lower right quarter holds an ox as a symbol of abundance.

    Bowl is a coin with the profile of
    José Gervasio Artigas, who is sometimes called the 'father of Uruguayan nationhood' and is a folk hero in Uruguay. Surrounding the profile is
    "
    Republica Oriental Del Uruguay Artigas". Uruguay minted these medium sized coins only in 1943.
