This is a lovely souvenir from the gay 1890s. It is a sterling silver spoon with a Cupid's Arrow shape, embelished with flowers and lily of the valley. The design was patented and sold exclusively by Edgar L. Everett of Troy NY. He advertised his "Love Spoon" in several editions of the 1891 Jeweler's Circular and Horological Review. It appears he commissioned George Shiebler to manufacture the spoon. All examples I could find have Shiebler's Winged "S" mark in addition to the stamped name E.L. Everett. Interestingly the S in the Shiebler mark on this example is backwards! The handle is engraved on the back with the date 1891 and there is also a "P" on the back of the bowl. Length is 4 1/4" and weight is 13.2 grams. There are three examples currently listed on eBay for to 0 including shipping.
