Disneyland Visit 6-Year Old 1958 Truth or Consequences TV Game Show Steve Dunne
Historic Disneyland Memorabilia from Saturday's Toys presents...
a rarely seen image of television's "Truth or Consequences" game show host, Steve Dunne, with 6-year old contest winner D.J. (Donald) Oosterbaan.  They are seen holding a 1957 Disneyland Souvenir Guide as young DJ arrived for his all-expense paid trip to Southern California, Hollywood and Disneyland.  The gift was awarded when a high school student of DJ's father (a drivers education instructor at Holland High School in Holland, Michigan) sent a letter to the game show in hopes of granting DJ one of his greatest childhood dreams:  a visit to Disneyland.
On Friday night, February 7, 1958, the show called student Ruth Zwemer and asked her to tell them the evening's "magic word"...  She knew the answer:  "Lucky".  This set off a whirlwind of activity so the family would be able to depart from Michigan on Monday, February 10.  Time was of the essence, as DJ had been diagnosed with leukemia and  his prognosis was not good.  It was understood that this might be the family's final trip togther as both parents, and DJ's older sister, Cheryl, all made their way to California.  While in Hollywood, they stayed at the famed Knickerbocker Hotel.  This photo captures DJ's meeting with emcee Steve Dunn.  Unfortunately, DJ's health continued to decline during the trip.  D.J. Oosterbaan was born on June 7, 1951 and died on February 20, 1958 (the date noted on this photo's caption).
This photo captures a quiet moment for the boy in the midst of a crowded tour schedule.  While the daytime version of "Truth or Consequences" was then hosted by legendary host Bob Barker; NBC had opted to use host Steve Dunne for the prime-time version of the game show.  The evening program ran only from December 13, 1957 thru June 6, 1958.
Steve Dunne (1918 - 1977) was active in film and television from 1945 - 1973.  He co-starred on such popular television series as Batman, Petticoat Junction, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Nanny and the Professor, and The Brady Bunch.
The vintage black & white photo mesures 7" x 9"; with caption affixed to bottom margin.  The photo image measures 6.75" x 6.75"

Soon after eBay's launch the following year, Saturday's Toys was among the first Disneyana specialists to strategize in embracing this rapidly developing technology. Having delivered over 10,000 coveted Disney treasures since then, Saturday's Toys is pleased to partner with researchers, collectors and friends throughout the world with a shared interest in the preservation of authentic and accurate Disney history.
Today, online offerings of archival Disneyana keepsakes are presented in celebration of the extended times that allow for family, friends and neighbors to join in memorable gatherings that nurture the strong connections that bind a community together. These treasures are affectionately known as "Saturday's Toys." In that light we present our adopted motto (with a tip of the cap to the Sherman Brothers):
