    Description

Authentic vintage postcard mailed by Disneyland in 1957. The card was sent to community and high school band and choral groups, dance classes, and related entertainers to inquire whether they were interested in participating in Disneyland's third annual Christmas Festival in 1957. An unusual piece of Disneyland memorabilia.
Making this postcard even more unique is to whom it is addressed. This must have been a postcard to test that the cards were successfully getting mailed, as it is addressed to Tommy Walker at Disneyland! Walt Disney hired Tommy in 1954 to be Disneyland's Park Entertainment Director. He held that position at Disneyland for 12 years. Tommy was most likely behind the program alluded to in this postcard that provided local performers the opportunity to entertain guests in the park during the holiday season. Tommy and his father, Vesey Walker (who started the Disneyland Band), were responsible for this program of school and community marching bands performing in the park that has become a staple of Disney theme park entertainment and continues to the present. Tommy left Disney abruptly in 1966. Rumor has it that he was secretly buying up land surrounding the property Disney was buying in Orlando, Florida for their new theme park, and his real estate purchases were seen as a conflict of interest.
