Historic Disneyland Auctions by Saturday's Toys presents...
a rare vintage color snapshot from Disneyland.... late 1950's / early 1960's.
Pictures the rarely photographed location where an Indian narrator (long before the term "Native American" was widely used) would speak using the microphone (seen hanging in photo) to explain the Ceremonial Dance that took place in the circular amphitheater of the Indian Village along the Rivers of America. Immediately adjacent to this location were the original "Indian War Canoes" (note the bandannas being worn by the pilot of each canoe; long before the attraction would become known as the "Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes" (while wearing coonskin caps).
Here, two youngsters enjoy a moment with the ceremonial drum as they create their own unique Disneyland memory.
Also of note are the early "wood" benches fashioned after a saw-cut tree. After the first generation of actual wood benches quickly deteriorated due to outdoor conditions (splinters!... termites!)... they were replaced with matching cement benches... molded and colored to the same likeness. We once owned a cement bench from the Indian Village... but the shipping costs were a bit extreme... so we had to leave it behind during one of our previous moves. (wonder if it's still there?!)
Photo is undated, but based on the sparse crowds and clothing worn by the two youngsters in the photo, we'd estimate that the photo was taken sometime between 1957 and the early 1960's.
Photo measures 3.5" x 5". Photo was originally mounted in a "removable" photo album. There was some paper separation on the back side of the photo when the previous owners removed it from their scrapbook. They secured the loose paper with tape; effectively minimizing the impact and preserving the front side of the photo from any significant damage. Fortunately... this exceptionally rare image survives to tell a wonderful story!

Saturday’s Toys and Disneyana Auctions
was founded in 1994 by Southern California author and Disney historian, Dave Mason. Soon after eBay's launch the following year, Saturday's Toys was among the first Disneyana specialists to strategize in embracing this rapidly developing technology. Having delivered over 10,000 coveted Disney treasures since then, Saturday's Toys is pleased to partner with researchers, collectors and friends throughout the world with a shared interest in the preservation of authentic and accurate Disney history.
Today, online offerings of archival Disneyana keepsakes are presented in celebration of the extended times that allow for family, friends and neighbors to join in memorable gatherings that nurture the strong connections that bind a community together. These treasures are affectionately known as "Saturday's Toys." In that light we present our adopted motto (with a tip of the cap to the Sherman Brothers):
"Oh, let's go fly a kite!"
