    Description

I buy vintage linens at local estate auctions to pass them along to you, and today I have two wonderful antique christening dress, one long and one shorter.
This is a long baby christening dress or nightgown that I believe dates to the1900s.  This is made of white cotton batiste, very lightweight, and is a larger size, which suggests it is not a christening gown but everyday nightgown.  If so, it has lots of pretty features.  There is a center placket with two small buttons at the neck, and handmade buttonholes.  The center placket is flanked by 8 pin tucks on each side.  There is a small collar whose fabric has embroidery and lace edging; the same fabric is used as turn-back cuffs on the long sleeves.  The sleeves are gathered at the shoulder and wide.  The body flares out below the underarms to a wide hem.  In back there are six large tucks at the center.  Please use the zoom function to appreciate all the detail.
measurements, all taken with the garment lying flat:
10" across front from shoulder to shoulder; 13" across front at underarms; ~9.5" sleeve length from shoulder top to cuff; 27" total length; 3.5" length of eyelet flounce; 23" sweep across front just above eyelet flounce
I have laundered and pressed this and found that the fabric is in sound condition, soft and smooth and strong, not brittle - mostly.  There are three areas of damage to the fabric: at the right front shoulder, at the bottom left side, and on the front placket.  These are shown in closeup in the last photos.  Still, it's
an heirloom piece and displays beautifully. I will price it accordingly.  Please contact me if you need more information.
I am storing this in my smoke-free home, but I do have a cat who sheds copiously, so be aware if you have allergies. Please contact me for more information or photos.  I am happy to combine items to save on shipping, so check my other listings too.  Thanks for looking!
